Visit Rapid City’s message “Do Big Things” is an inviting city mantra for a place where you can most definitely do BIG things. From standing in awe at Mount Rushmore to finding yourself mere feet from wild buffalo right outside the car door, there are countless things for attendees to do throughout Rapid City and the Black Hills. Planners just need to experience it to believe it, which is the sparking thought behind one of Rapid City’s most successful marketing campaigns to date: The Amazing Rush.
The Origin of The Amazing Rush
Four years ago, Digital Edge developed a concept for our friends at Visit Rapid City. The idea was to create a competition-based FAM trip inspired by reality tv series The Amazing Race. The FAM trip would offer an experience that was original, engaging and even FUN for planners—all while highlighting Visit Rapid City’s best assets: their destination and their incredible team.
Here’s a glimpse at Season 3.
Each year, The Amazing Rush takes place during National Travel & Tourism Week. Competitors embark on a two-day adventure filled bucket list attractions, breathtaking scenery and unexpected experiences. The competition is big and the itineraries are even bigger. The chosen teams of meeting planners venture from fun and educational to explorative and even challenging tasks, all while seeing just how amazing the destination is.
It’s been one of those campaigns that just keeps getting better and better for Visit Rapid City.
“Meetings related business takes time and fluctuation of sales/marketing approaches to draw the attention of groups in order to get them to a destination. Definitely no easy task. All we can do is stay the course, trust in our product along with our abilities and keep plugging away, because good things will manifest from it.” – Tyson Steiger, Director of Convention Sales for Visit Rapid City
